4.48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane

2.0

This is a love it or hate it play. It is so emotionally upsetting and draining, it can't possibly leave you indifferent. The most disturbing fact about 4.48 Psychosis is that it's autobiographical. I cannot imagine what Sarah Kane has been through to end up feeling this... depressed. She eventually committed suicide (the play is, after all, a genuine suicide note) by hanging herself in a bathroom at London King's College.
I found this steam of consciousness repetitive, depressing, torturous and downright nauseating. Nevertheless, I have to give props to Sarah for describing her feelings and mental state so sickeningly well.
