Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

4.0

A satisfying conclusion to the six of crows duology, though I wouldn't be ashamed to say I would love more stories about these characters <3

The story started off pretty slow at the start but picked up the pace well enough a few chapters in. The writing was ingenious, especially the "think like a merchant" plan that Kaz put in action about the middle of the book. I also loved how much care and detail were put into fleshing out the arcs of all the characters - esp Wylan and Jesper in this book since they didn't have much screentime in the last. It wrapped everything up beautifully - not only with the main characters but also the villains like Van Eck and Pekka Rollins and still gave us a bit of a hint that there is more to come for the crew with the last chapter.

[SPOILERS AHEAD]

I'm not gonna lie, I feel like Matthias' death came out of nowhere + kinda lamely and it kind of frustrated me that he just got killed by some Fjerdan Rando nearing the end when the book was about to end ... like he didn't even die in the line of action of the main plot. I absolutely hated him in the last book and am finally coming around to appreciating his character and hoping him and Nina could be left to explore their own story at the end of the book but then they just killed him off seemingly for no reason and in the most unsatisfying way.
