Cute and Heartfelt.
Lots of little tidbits of morals and positive messages. In my opinion, it really is perfect for the 8-12 year old age range.
Valente made this fantastical world unique with her take on magical creatures and witches/wizard powers. I absolutely loved Oswin the kobold.
This is a series, but it felt like it ended on a good enough note that "there's more to the story" but not a complete cliffhanger. Which I like because I want to read the next ones but I'd rather pace them out.
