Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson
4.0
Can't wait to get into the critiques, but the writing is so good and the research is damn impressive. I can already sense that there are issues with the argument of caste vs race and I think it's valid to interrogate this weakness in the book. Is caste sufficient in expanding on ideas of race? Does it do the work of expanding our understanding of it? I'm not so sure it does. What it does, is provide a history of division and prejudicial ideas while attempting to give a global perspective on what has set us apart from each other, often to horrific effects. There's so much to consider here, which I appreciate the book doing.
