All it took was to read 20 pages for me to know this was going to be a 5 star book and I am on my way to go grab an other novel written by Jeff Zentner!
Usually I have lots to say but this novel was so good I feel like my review wouldn't do it justice so here are things I loved in no particular order:
- The excellent use of flashbacks to explain the characters' background and how INTERESTING and different they were (I only wish we had more info on Lydia's because she once mentioned her life wasn't as amazing as Dill thought it was but we never had an insight into it, so she indeed was the character with the PERECT life (loving parents, rich, smart, famous on social media) which was a big contrast with Dill and Travis who were basically competing for the "worst family" award
- The author succeeded in tackling sensitive subjects (abuse, religion, death, suicide,...) in a pertinent manner and with always very accurate words
- The death of Travis (simply because he was my favorite character and I like when books rips my soul apart => his death broke my heart because he was just starting to see the light in his life, he had plans, a girl he loved and ambition, and then was brutally murdered)
I still can't get over the fact he never got to read the last book of his favorite saga
- A sad but happy ending
- Short chapters
- I cried and could take selfies for my "crying selfies" database
- Every chapter was from one of the friends point of view
- Dill's character development; going from a docile worm saying yes to everything his pedophile parents asked to an almost confident man
- Lydia's strong character (she was sometimes rude and a control-freak but she's 17 and she reminds me a lot of myself therefore no criticism will be accepted about her)
That's it, nobody reads long reviews but I am writing this so I can read them myself over and over again anyways
CONCLUSION: If you like the YA genre with a bit of romance and like to cry like me, READ THIS BOOK !!
