Mary Ventura and the Ninth Kingdom
by Sylvia Plath
At first, I thought it's the journey of life.. how our parents bring us into the world and initially make decisions for us, setting us on a path we don't fully comprehend. They send off on the train, seemingly without fully explaining where she’s headed or why, felt like a metaphor for how we’re born into circumstances, often with expectations or destinations already laid out for us.. *sits on the corner for a while with that thought*
But then...
The train ride started to feel more and more like a meditation on dying.. dark and ominous( how i like it) the sense of finality.. There is also how Mary started passive (like we'd all be) then we had the awakening and her activily trying to gain control (perhaps too late?)
I love the way Plath weaves her yarn... so sinister for a piece written when she was quiet young..
In theory it's not original.. trips/journeys = life/death... automatically had me thinking of river styx.. but with her style of writing.. I think I might remember this one
