Water Walker by Ted Dekker
3.0
3.5 STARS
PG-13 for disturbing elements and mild language
Recommend to 16 & up
REVIEW:
I was on edge, waiting for something horrific and cult to happen... And after a while, the tension dissolved. Things just plateaued for me. I have said before that I struggle with books that take place in one location, and literally I felt locked in a house during this read and not in a good way. Some books can take place in small towns, homes, etc. and do not feel suffocating! However, this book did not me feel like I had escaped into a newer, bigger place at all.
There were some good, intense moments. Sometimes I was drawn into the story, and holding my breath. Regrettably though, the end of this book really killed that suspense as it moved into more of the spiritual/moral of the story. I wasn't impressed by the Christian message; it was a bit boring, long, and preach-y. I don't think I would've made it through if I were actually reading Water Walker and not listening to it on audiobook.
If you're a Ted Dekker fan, like myself, you'll more than likely read this book and it will be more interesting because you'll recognize the cameos and tie-in's to his other works. If you haven't read Outlaw (which I haven't), this book isn't a very strong standalone.
I don't really recommend Water Walker, unless you like Ted Dekker. If you've wanted to pick up one of his books, I recommend Blink of an Eye, Thr3e, or Immanuel's Veins.
