On Trails: An Exploration
by Robert Moor
Like the trails Robert Moor followed thoughout his seven year journey, On Trails is a sinuous exploration of the meanings we give to nature and our failed attempts to make sense of our vast world. Moor delves deep into not just the scientific and historical meanings of trails, but what they mean philosophically, in a literary sense, and what they mean to the human story. While this book feels like a collection of essays that wander from topic to topic, they make sense in the end and ultimately made me question everything I knew about the environment. This book succeeds in entertaining as well as challenging the reader.
