The Heart Principle by Helen Hoang
4.0
This book was not what I was expecting it to be, but I really enjoyed it anyway! First, this book was written in first person (the other two in the series were in third person), which was a pleasant surprise. I'm not a huge fan of third person so when I started reading this one, I was excited to see that it was in first person.
Anyway, as for the actual book, this was a lot more emotional than I was expecting it to be. The first two books in the series had depth to them but were overall more happy romcom reads, this was not. This book dealt a lot with grief and the struggles of taking care of a sick loved one, and was not the light fluffy romcom I was expecting it to be after reading the first two books in the series. Even though I didn't necessarily go into this book wanting an emotional, sad book, I did end up liking the story quite a bit.
What I didn't like about this book, compared to the others, were the characters. I didn't find myself able to connect to Anna and care about her as much as I could the previous characters in the other two books. I was the most excited for Quan's book (in my review of The Bride Test I said that I couldn't wait to get to his book) and I found myself a little let down with his character. Being in his perspective just didn't do it for me, in the end I liked him better as a side character.
Overall, I still really enjoyed this book and the story, and I absolutely love that Helen Hoang always writes characters on the Autism spectrum. This book was a bit of a let down after the first two but I would definitely still recommend reading it. It was a great read!
