The Giver by Lois Lowry
5.0
I read this book in fifth grade. I didn't remember it much. Re-discovering it. I recall thinking it would be something like 1984, but it wasn't.
The story is more about the relationship between The Giver and Jonah than it is about Jonah and his community. Johnah learns that ignorance is bliss, and the wisdom of suffering, choice and the beauty of nature; foreign to his neighbors family and friends, made him long for somewhere he could experience these things.
He no longer wanted to be hidden in the Sameness of his community or shamed for his feelings. Most importantly, he wanted to experience love.
This was a very good book. I'm glad I took the chance to re-read it.
