Clara Heywood, a surgeon wanting to work in the war service is sent to France to Royamount Abbey where wounded French soldiers are sent for treatment. While there she learns a lot about herself, is often impetuous in her work and also knowing the changes in herself begins to wonder whether she will have a future after the war with her fiancée. Female doctors and surgeons were not acknowledged in those days however the Abbey is fully staffed by women allowing her to work with assurance.
