This was a really good book! Clare is an excellent writer. Her plots, characters, and relationships always hit. The intrigue, world building, and mystery aspects were awesome, and I was completely blindsided as to who the bad guys were (Joss, Jolivet). Antonetta being Prosper Beck was also a huge surprise.
The only thing is I thought that there would be more in this book. I thought that by the end the king would have transformed into a phoenix, and the Malgasi would have done something terrible, and Conor would be at the hands of Elsabet. So I was a little disappointed when none of that happened, but I guess that’s something I have to look forward to in the next book.
