Winter Tales by Dawn Casey

4.0

This collection contains fairy tales from all over the world, from Western classics like The Snow Queen and The Nut Cracker to tales that were unfamiliar to me such as Tanuki's Gold (Japan), The Poinsettia (Mexico), and The Children and the Sun (Southern Africa). I loved discovering those lesser known ones the most and I appreciate how careful the author treated tales by indigenous cultures (she tried to obtain permission for publishing her versions and donates part of the profits to Survival International). What truly makes this book shine though are the stunning illustrations by Zanna Goldhawk. Beautiful and sweet, with many things to discover, and a gorgeous color palette that fits the winter mood perfectly.
