2.5 stars! while i'm enjoying the dark tower series as a whole, this particular entry felt a bit dog-eared and slow (hear me, i beg). i am sure i am missing a great deal of significance of the plot from not having read kings' other novels, but i still found many of its excursions to be altogether irrelevant and tedious. the solidly-drawn characters and elaborate diction and universe are keeping me on this bizarre road, and the climactic battle at the end is exhilarating and led up to well, but it's over far too quick and i can't help but feel like i waited a bit too long in line for it. recommended for fans of the series.
