Culture and Imperialism by Edward W. Said
5.0
challenging informative reflective slow-paced

Hard to believe this was written a quarter of a century ago!! Before even the dawning of the 21st century, Said recognised the importance of holding space for complexity when attending to the logics of imperialism that pervade literature and other creative works of culture — reading “contrapuntally” as he puts it. This is an absolutely essential book for anyone wanting to think critically about culture and cultural studies today, and I’m both annoyed at and grateful to myself for not reading it until this moment, as it deftly weaves together many threads of thought I’ve been trying to locate, follow, and detangle.
