I’m sure this book is going to get a lot of hype on booktok within the coming year since Hoover is a fan favorite. There were times I did truly enjoy this book! The ending was very emotional, and the forgiveness and reunions were sweet. However, the book was slow at times and was very focused on trauma-bonding, which seems to be one of Hoover’s main tropes.

Kenna was the driver in a car accident that killed her boyfriend, Scotty. After she was sentenced to prison, she finds out she’s pregnant with his child, a daughter who Kenna names Diem (I really disliked this name that’s after “Carpe Diem”). Kenna gives birth in prison, and Scotty’s parents then raise Diem while Kenna is in prison. After she is released, she returns to Scotty’s hometown to see if she is able to have a relationship with Diem. Ledger, a typical tall, dark, and handsome man, comes into the picture and throws Kenna off the path to her daughter.

Again, not a bad premise or a bad book. I did enjoy it but prefer Hoover’s writing style in “Verity” to her romance novels.
