Goodbye, Eri by Tatsuki Fujimoto
4.0
”I get wanting someone to film your death. In a movie, you could keep living…”
Goodbye, Eri was a big, beautiful meta mindfuck.
Open to interpretation with no single nor correct explanation.
Fujimoto places the destiny of this manga in our hands while simultaneously spinning this story on its head over and over again. The path continues to change, yet it feels like one long shot of a film.
I went through so many emotions as I flew through this.
You have the option to choose realism or fantasy. Grief is complex— which way would you choose to overcome it?
Human emotion is deep and it is incredible. We get to feel — tell me that isn’t powerful. Fujimoto depicts this brilliantly, it’s the heart of the story. I am thoroughly impressed and in awe of this mangaka’s ability to depict grief through his artistic lens so authentically.
A great and necessary read.
