March: Book One by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin

5.0

Upon reread, just as powerful as I remember it. A work of nonfiction following John Lewis, a key figure of the civil rights movement in America.

Looking back it’s hard to believe that it’s only been 60 years since equal rights were introduced in America. However, the violence and racism is still happening today, atleast what I see from an outsider’s perspective - which gives the book more power of resonance I guess.

This book, the first of three, introduces John Lewis from his childhood days, to the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement, where peaceful, nonviolent protests were held to allow black people to have access to lunch counters, where they were previously not allowed to eat due to discriminatory policies. Looking forward to book 2, which I haven’t read before!
