richtate 's review for:
Deadlocked
by Charlaine Harris
As a die hard fan of this series I have to sadly say it is probably for the best that it will end next year in its 13th installment.
Let me preface my thoughts on the book by saying I really did love this series. Harris somehow managed to work gritty urban fantasy, the classic mystery approach and a neurotic yet lovable heroine all into the same mix and the result was fantastic.
The last two books were somewhat of a let down, and while this one is certainly above those standards it still fails to capture the magic of the earlier works.
My main complaint about the last book was that things felt rushed. It seemed to me that Harris was trying to execute several plot points while maintaining a low word count and this feeling resounded for me yet again.
I truly believe the author has done a fantastic job at growing this mix of unique characters, but in the case of Sookie she simply isn't the fragile telepathic waitress that we all know and love anymore and has really become the victim of her own story.
I will again anxiously await the final installment of this awesome series because I'm searching for a sense of finality, and if you're a fan of it as well you owe it to yourself to read this book, just don't expect it to capture the magic that it once had.
Overall this is a good book in a truly impressive series, it just isn't the book we were all hoping for.
