fionaswriting 's review for:
After Sappho
by Selby Wynn Schwartz
This is one of the most beautiful books I've read in a long time. It's poetic and disjointed and fragmentary (for obvious reasons). It deals with a lot of the things I've been struggling with - how do we choose between the work of a better world and a life, how do we survive when that work is futile, how do we work together when we're all so different. It's mostly about love, though, and poetry - how women love each other, how poetry gave a voice to it.
The huge, huge Citation List is going to be a source of many rabbit holes for me, too. I will be rereading this for years to come.
