as someone who is aroace, i wasn't totally sure about this going into it! but overall i did find myself enjoying it a lot, even if the continual mentions of fanfiction and the obsession with love got a little tiring. i saw one review that said that this didn't really reflect the fullness of aroace experience, but it didn't need to—which i fully agree with. yes, aspec people are far more complex than this book displayed. but it also did an incredible job of depicting experiences that were acutely relatable, at least for me, and really validating. this isn't the most incisive, perfect representation, but i don't think it needs to be. it's still incredibly powerful to see aspec characters living fully and happy lives. and hopefully this helps someone else learn more about themselves in the process. :)

all in all: a simple but fun and entertaining read, especially as a feel good novel for a rainy day. <3
