If you’re looking for a novel that explains everything in the end, look elsewhere.
Memory Police is more of an exploration of what it would be like to live in a world where a totalitarian regime you don’t understand reigns. It is very Japanese in nature, in that the characters mostly accept their circumstances and find ways to continue on living despite things getting more and more difficult, and less and less is in their control.
I also find it very hopeful in tone, with the message of human perseverance and kindness being a common tendril throughout.
