The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent is a dark fantasy with romance and dangerous trials.
Going into this book, I knew nothing about it except that it has good reviews and romance in it. While I think it’s okay going in knowing nothing about it, I do think there were times that I was a bit confused as to what was going on.
This story was very brutal from the beginning, so if you’re a fan of dark fantasies, I think you’ll enjoy it. The vampires had little regard for human life, so the protagonist had to be constantly on her guard against them.
Oraya, the main character, was likable, and I rooted for her throughout the whole story. She had to work so hard to keep up with the vampires, and I thought she was really impressive.
I liked the relationships in this book. Not only were there some great friendships, but I also liked the romance.
I listened to the audiobook for this story, and I did like the narrator. I do think this might be a good book to read in tandem with the physical or e-book version because there is a lot going on, but I overall enjoyed the audiobook.
I will definitely be continuing on with this series because I enjoyed the characters, and there were definitely some surprises with the plot that I want to learn more about in future books.
