The Morning Star by Karl Ove Knausgård
3.0

A longtime fan of Knausgårds previous work, I was much looking forward to the translation of his new novel coming out in september. After having finished it I am now sat wondering what he was trying to do. Many, many different characters are introduced, each with their own daily grind and thoughts, some bearing a remarkable resemblance to himself. Funnily enough I found the ones that were furthest away from him to have the most believable personalities. The book is filled with thoughts on the same themes the author wrote about in the My Struggle series: life, death, religion. In this novel he has found a new way of communicating them to the reader: through his characters rather than by using a first person perspective. Even though the building suspense, woven through everyday life connecting characters through the Morning Star made me wonder what would happen next, the book overall left me feeling like I had read most of the philosophical pondering before coming from a voice I much preferred: his own.
