I found a lot of similarity here to another of his books, The Taking. Story lines that hardly seem to make sense together, and a battle against evil of apocalyptic proportions. This scored another star from me mostly over the ending, not the actual ending, but the denouement, and how it changed my previous perception of a number of the characters, which of course was Koontz's plan all along. I did find a number of the associations to be a little too loose, I don't think all the threads were bound up nicely.
I somehow caught an interview with him once on TV that spoke at some length about the strength of his religious faith. When you think of a deeply faithful author, and how that might impact his or her work, I guarantee you that this stuff is not what you are picturing. Thank God (no pun intended).
