The Fake Out by Stephanie Archer

5.0

4.75 ⭐️ Best Christmas Book of the Year.

Stephanie Archer has consistently been writing some of my favourite contemporary romances ever. Her Queen's Cove series was a amazing (minus book 4, because I hate Finn Rhodes - but we're not going to talk about that rn).

This is the second book in the Vancouver Storm series and it's just as good as the first one, if not better! Rory and Hazel give off some enemies to lovers vibes at the beginning, but it's mostly friendly banter - at least on Rory's side. When Hazel's cheating ex-boyfriend gets drafted onto the team they work for, Rory tries to convince Hazel to let him help in any way he can, but she doesn't want anything to do with him. They've known each other since high school and Hazel only sees Rory as a cocky, egotistical jock. When her ex starts making pointed comments to her about their past, Hazel blurs out a lie that she knows would hurt him: she's actually dating Rory Miller. The only player her ex was ever jealous of.

Rory is the most amazing, sweetest, cinnamon roll mmc with a dirty mouth and his love language is gift giving because this man could not stop spending money on her! Was it borderline ridiculous at times? Absolutely. But this man manages to make buy lingerie and sending it to someone as a surprise wholesome. Masterful, really.

I honestly picked this book up because I wanted to read it, but is has a lot of Christmassy themes and feels to it. I enjoyed it immensely, and I'm so happy I read it this week.
