What a splendiferous book!
The only reason I picked this up was because I adore Critical Role and was thrilled to see Jester’s beloved book come to life. And for the first half that was the main thing keeping me reading. The book stands on its own two feet by the end, though. Oskar and Guinevere are delightful and, while the nods to Critical Role remained fun, their story and growth became endearing all on its own. Yes, it’s a bit of a rushed ending but a very sweet one all the same.
While I highly doubt it would happen, I would be very interested if other authors took on more “Matilda Merceria” stories.
