bekahwright 's review for:
The People We Keep
by Allison Larkin
Taking place in upstate NY in 1994, April is basically abandoned by her parents in a mobile home to fend for herself. She hits the road in a stolen car, and finds jobs and friends along the way. But circumstances force her to keep uprooting her life until that is all she knows. She travels and performs in bars and cafés and collects friends along the way. What she really wants is stability and family.
The book kept my interest if only to make sure April is okay. Overall it was a little unsettling, depressing and unsatisfying.
