danacordelia 's review for:
The Other Queen
by Philippa Gregory
This was a genuinely enjoyable account of the last few years in the life of Mary, Queen of Scots. It lacked the sweeping visual descriptions and sparkling romance of The Other Boleyn Girl, and although the style was much the same (in the voices of three separate characters) I didn't think it held up well to The Boleyn Inheritance, which proved much more engaging and exciting.
I would have liked to see a deeper biography of the other Queen Mary; something along the lines of The Constant Princess, Gregory's account of the life of Katherine of Aragon, which was truly beautiful.
In all, I recommend it for fans of her brand historical fiction. It's not the best she's written, but it's still very good, and a piece of the Tudor Dynasty that's touched on all too scarcely.
