Staying in Vegas by Sam Mariano
3.0

3 stars

I came directly to this series from the original Morelli series with Mateo and Mia. I was excited to read about Rafe because in the other series he came off as calculative, conniving, alpha - all the delicious things we seek in red flags.

Instead, Rafe was a secondary character. I was utterly disappointed at how fragile and powerless he was. He didn't give the air of a leader, let alone the head of the Mafia line in Vegas. Instead, Christian Sinclair "Sin" is who stepped up and acted more like a fierce leader. He was strong, dominant and put thought into situations without reacting like a child. Laurel was a 19 year old girl with so much innocence in her that Rafe crushed whatever she felt for him when he learned of the pregnancy. He basically called her whore and accused her of looking for money. That would infuriate and crush me too. I wouldn't be able to look at him the same. So Laurel didn't.

Sin stepped in and took Laurel and kept her in his house to allow Rafe to cool down and think rationally. Instead, it backfired and lines blurred and feelings crossed lines it shouldn't have. But when that happens can you really go back?

Overall, I am a lover of Sam Mariano's writing and books but man I was so disappointed with this story. I hated how Rafe was painted. Yes I do love Sin...so much. But not to the detriment of a character I loved.
