Eternal Descendants by Emory Gayle

4.0

Eternal Descendants is a fast-paced read with accessible Greek mythology surrounding a romance with high stakes.

Mellie is used to being on her own–with the exception of her companion and cat, Bear. In the end, everybody else leaves. She lives a quiet life with her cat and plants–which flourish around her.

Erich might be the son of a god, but a prophecy has destined him to a life without true love. He spends his time gaining knowledge in hopes of finding the answers he seeks.

He is given the task by his mother, Athena–yes that one, the goddess of wisdom, warfare, and handicraft–of protecting someone in the human realm. She doesn't give him any more information than that. He moves across from Mellie and is immediately drawn to her witt.
What he thought would be an easy assignment is just the start of something that was always meant to unfold and requires more strength–in heart and mind–than he ever knew he possessed.

Mellie's quiet life is about to be turned upside down and give her the answers she's always wanted and the connection she desires.

The characters are loveable and have amazing personalities–I loved the banter between them. Despite the fast development of the romance between the main characters–Mellie and Erich–it still felt simultaneously natural and that there might be a reason for the deeper connection. The other characters–which include a cat with so much personality despite never saying a word–were great to follow alongside the couple and enriched the story.

A really enjoyable–easy–read with fantastical elements.
