Immortal Dark by Tigest Girma
4.0

Immortal Dark delivers an extraordinary and intricately crafted world that’s as immersive as it is unique, grounding vampire lore within Ethiopian culture in a way that feels refreshingly original. Girma’s detailed approach to world-building brings Uxlay University to life, creating a dark academia setting filled with lore and layered histories that are both fascinating and ambitious.

That said, the world-building could occasionally feel overwhelming. At times, it veered into info-dumping, making it a challenge to keep pace. The sheer volume of detail is impressive but, at moments, felt like too much to process in one go.

The enemies-to-lovers dynamic between the main characters leans heavily on the “enemies” aspect. While this adds intensity and tension, I did find myself wondering when—or if—they’d ever reach the “lovers” part, which led to some frustration along the way. Despite these bumps, their relationship is intriguing and dynamic, a slow burn that adds depth to the story.

Overall, Immortal Dark offers an exciting journey through the mysterious halls of Uxlay University. This opener to the trilogy shows promise, and I’m looking forward to seeing where Girma takes this world and these characters next.
