Definitely go into this with a ready suspension of disbelief, the less questions asked the better. This book is not trying to take itself seriously, and neither should you. I really enjoyed it, though. Felix is probably one of my favorite characters I've read in a while, which I'm sure contributed to my overall positive opinion since I'm such a character driven reader. I do think a little bit of a firmer hand could have been used with the editing, some parts of the dialogue feel unnatural and forced, but that was easy to overlook.
In some ways the setting reminded me a little of Dreadful by Caitlin Rozakis, but with all the trappings of a romance. I know villain stories are a bit of a trend at the moment, but of the ones I've read so far I'd say these two might be my favorites?
