Alpha's Secret by Renee Rose, Lee Savino
5.0
Rose and Savino start to reveal some of mysteries of their Bad Boy Alphas series in Alpha’s Secret. The focus of this book is on Grizz, a bear shifter who somewhat inexplicably has been working as security for a vampire club. And through that he discovers a shifter submissive serving a vampire master. It’s his rescue of Jordy from her inhumane living conditions that drives the immediate plot of Alpha’s Secret, but it’s the antagonistic relationship between the vampires and the shifters that’s at the heart of this story.
There are lots of revelations about what’s going on with missing shifters in Alpha’s Secret; this book is aptly named. And I thought there was a core of tenderness in Grizz’s feelings for Jordy. Jordy was a tougher character to understand, as she’s so subsumed in her submissive status that she’s become a slave, and it takes her a long time to shake off those shackles and establish herself.
There are some abrupt about-faces in Alpha’s Secret. Grizz is driven by revenge—until he isn’t. Jordy is totally slave-like—until she isn’t. I would have liked a bit more indication of what was coming, particularly for Grizz. But the overall story moves forward dramatically in this book. There are revelations, not only about Grizz’s personal mysteries, but about the risks and threats to the shifter community, that make Alpha’s Secret a great read.
As this book is number 10 in its series, it can be read on its own, but it’s a much richer experience if read in series order. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the secrets of Bad Boy Alphas revealed in future books.
