Mostly Harmless by Douglas Adams
2.0

I'M FINALLY DONE!!!!!!!

With the entire series. Here's my problem: I rarely find the energy to stick out series'ssss. (say that in a Gollum voice and you have perfection). YA trilogies seem to be easier, mostly because of the sparser plotlines (looking at you Hunger Games/Divergent/and somewhat Harry Potter series).

The ONLY reason I stuck with Hitchhiker's Guide is I picked this for my trilogy during the Reading Challenge. And this series is Dave's favorite. He owns all of them.

So, I loved aspects of this. Irreverence is a plus but seemed to be lacking. I got bogged down in details that I'm not 100% sure were ever fleshed out by Adams in this book or previous ones. By that point, I was pushing through to the finish line. I also liked the character of Tricia/Trillian. I liked Arthur and Random too.

I didn't like Ford and he was one of my favorites in the beginning. When he got depressed, he never seemed to recover and I just found him annoying.

My advice: start 1 and then read each individually afterwards instead of trying to plow through the Ultimate guide. I should probably learn from this and The Complete Stories of Flannery O'Connor to not attempt anthologies of a writer I've never read. But I probably won't learn my lesson. C'est le vie.
