I haven’t read many murder mysteries and was trying to figure out if it would be a genre I’d enjoy. Thinking nothing of it, I chose this book. I can say that I was pleasantly surprised by the many plot twists and the magical spin on the story.
The beginning was immediately action-packed, and I liked that the author threw me right into the story. Judging from the start, I thought it would be about solving a murder that the main character (Sebastian Bell, up until this point ) couldn’t remember from the night before. So when he fell down that first night and someone else woke up as the main character the ‘next morning,’ I was completely hooked. It was a unique way to solve a murder and had me fully invested in all the different intertwining moments and the timeline as a whole.
The characters were all quite different and gave the main character their own struggles and perspectives to work with, which was a great addition and genuinely added depth to the story. This made way for some great character development, not just for the main character but also for Anna, one of the side characters.
Towards the end, it felt like there was one plot twist after another, and sometimes that can be overwhelming, but in this case, I was all here for it!
Moderate: Murder
