Overview of my thoughts: If you're a bookworm, like me, who is constantly reading books (and sometimes multiple at the same time!) there is bound to be books that do not quite stick with you, or, are easily forgettable. This is not one of those books! Something I really liked about them was the simple, yet descriptive writing. Unlike many fantasy writers, E. J. Mellow was able to illustrate this beautiful world of Aadilor and The Thief Kingdom with descriptions unlike what I've read before. Lovely writing for such interesting books!

Plot: Arabessa Bassette, eldest daughter of Dolion Bassette, and conductor of the danger, entrancing Mousai. She was pushed into the mother role at a very young age and throughout the years, she feels that she has had burden upon burden laid upon her. Yet she doesn't show it, continuing to lead the Mousai, her sisters, their family. Ara is the guiding light, but to her, the one who saved her is the love of her life, Zimri. But when a position to vie for the throne as the Thief King, she must reject Zimri's marriage proposal to her. Hurt, Zimri becomes engaged to another.

But Arabessa must push all of her emotions aside as she fights for her life to win the three trials and ensure the role of Thief King stays in her family. This is what she has always wanted...right?

But what has she sacrificed to do this? Will she be able to mend this relationship with Zimri, or will their relationship never become anything more?

Characters: Ara is a very strong leading figure, and in many ways, I can relate to her. She feels burdened many times by responsibilities as well as having to suppress her emotions. That's something that I think all people can relate to at some point in time. I saw parts of myself (being the eldest child, musically gifted, expectations are always there) in her.

Zimri is a darling character, and I loved seeing him grow throughout the books. He is a slightly different character than he was in the first book and it really shows in this one!

I loved the Bassette sisters as always, and, not to pick favorites, but I still love Niya A LOT. But I love all of them in turn!

Romance: Ok. The romance. I'm not a huge fan of childhood best friends-to-lovers, but I actually enjoyed this one! Something about it was a lot sweeter than the other two in recent books (Zimri is defo less rude- ) which I really loved!

Is it my favorite romance in this trilogy?

Overall: This is a trilogy to remember! It had its highs and lows but in the end, a very lovely finale. :)
