Beyond That, the Sea by Laura Spence-Ash
4.0

This book was not what I expected it to be, but that's not to say it wasn't great as is! The ending was not what I expected either, but I'm glad it worked out the way it did. It felt right.

This book doesn't just focus on a few years of Bea being in and coming home from America after being sent there temporarily from WWII torn London, but it focuses on her and her surrounding family and friends and the love and loss between them for decades.

Sometimes it was hard to tell about what year it was or who was talking due to the major lack of quotation marks, with the conversations largely happening inside the body of paragraphs. It also felt pretty unnecessarily long in some parts.

I give this book credit for not catering to happy endings with a neat bow placed on top. While the absolute ending was happy, it was not a happy journey.
