Giraffe by J.M. Ledgard

5.0

Have you ever wondered about historical events that have little known facts?

Personally, I have. And I love reading different takes on such things. In his novel, J.M. Ledgard explores the possible events and people that were part of the largest slaughter of Giraffes.

To give you a quick recap, this really did happen. This was covered up during the “communist moment” in Chekslovakia. And there is still very little the public knows about it. It is clear that Ledgard did ample amounts of research and was explicitly careful not to give away the identities of those involved.

His tone throughout the story is pensive and his characters are oddly aware of each moment in their lives. There is little room for wandering thoughts and his writing style is very “in the moment”. While his topics are morose, his characters have a zen quality to them.

This book is not for the faint of heart, but it was haunting, beautiful, and mesmerizing.
