The Golden Lily: sequel to Bloodlines, spin-off series of Vampire Academy and one of my most anticipated reads of the year.
The torture I went through waiting for this turned out to be worth every second! I started reading The Golden Lily one late afternoon with the intention of only reading one chapter and then BOOM suddenly it was 2:30 in the morning and I had just turned the final page! I honestly still can't believe how fast I read the book or how long it took me to go to sleep afterwards because my mind was still reeling in fictional bliss at such an amazing book with such a mind-boggingly fantastic last chapter!
Okay first I have a confession to make, I'm one of those strange individuals that although LOVED Vampire Academy and am enjoying Bloodlines a hell of a lot more... so far. There's just something about it that pulls me in, holds me in a death grip until I turn the final page.
I think a lot of people went into Bloodlines expecting it to be a lot like Vampire Academy, I did too and that's why I wasn't really looking forward to it, especially after the last chapter in Last Sacrifice that royally pissed me off... but Richelle Mead blew me away. I think some people don't understand that the character's are different and therefore the story is different.
Rose is a kick ass character who kicks ass on a physical level and Sydney is a kick ass character as well but more on a mental level... so basically Rose tends to kick ass and think about the consequences later and Sydney thinks before she does any ass kicking... on a more verbal front.
Usually I tend to prefer Rose's kind of character and although I love her to pieces, I'm enjoying watching Sydney struggle through all her difficulties and transform little by little into an amazing person... yes Rose had difficulties as well but Sydney just feels so much more real to me.
Which brings me to another favourite part of this series... the character development. Sydney and Adrian are changing little by little and you can see it happening. Just from a look at Bloodlines to The Golden Lily they have changed so much, and in The Golden Lily we get a glimpse of the amazing and strong woman that Sydney is going to be and I can't wait for The Indigo Spell to see how she will further develop from there!
Adrian's transformation is definitely amazing as well, he is finally getting his head together and we can see the amazing man he is going to transform into... and just by that last chapter... which had me pretty much foaming at the mouth and swooning, he's going to be one hell of a man!
I can't forget to mention Jill, Eddie, Angeline, Trey and the intriguing witch and history teacher Jacqueline Terwillger either! All throughout the book I felt so sorry for Eddie, then at the end I felt so sorry for Jill, so its going to be very interesting to see what happens in The Indigo Spell!
I really love Trey and Angeline is hilarious, the poor girl doesn't understand right from wrong, but under the circumstances I think she's doing a pretty good job! I'm really hoping that Trey and Angeline get together!
Last but not least there is Jacqueline Terwillger (I forget if they call her Miss or Mrs.) She's hilarious too and I think she has great patience and even greater expectations for Sydney to not want to strangle her yet. I love the way she is slowly nudging her into the world of magic and I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book! It looks like the teacher will be getting a lot more spotlight than she has in the previous books... which hopefully means a ton of witch magic will follow! I especially can't wait to see how Sydney will handle that!
I could talk about this forever so I'll end this review here before I spoil anything! Everyone who hasn't picked up The Golden Lily yet, or even The Vampire Academy series... I highly suggest that you do! Why? Because anyone can fall in love with the character that Richelle Mead gives life to and you wont regret picking up either series!
