Queenie
by Candice Carty-Williams
1/10 - Queenie is described as a Black Bridget Jones, humorous and a refreshing look at mental health, with the typical British humour. But it’s a disappointing and (in my limited experience) an inaccurate representation of Black women stereotypes, being the subject of body fetishisation and micro-aggressions from her white ex-boyfriend.
A disappointing first few chapters took me to reading reviews to see if it improves, apparently it doesn’t.
It’s a DNF at 24% at which point I hadn’t laughed or smiled once.
