Ask Again, Yes
by Mary Beth Keane
This book was one of the best I have read this year. (And yes, of course, I cried -- twice. Toward the end of the book, the unusual title makes perfect sense and lands an emotional punch).
This is a beautifully written page-turner focused on two families and a tragedy that both ties them together and pushes them apart. I cared so much about each and every one of the characters, and loved the multiple viewpoints and the decades-long timeline. The theme of forgiveness is so deftly woven throughout all of the relationships.
Often after reading novels I am at a loss for words to write these Goodreads reviews, so I look to see what other reviewers have said. An NPR review called this a "modestly magnificent" novel, and I loved that description.
