The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks
5.0
I have enjoyed Nicholas Sparks movies and books for many years. When I read the back of the book, it sparked my interest when I read about the child having learning disabilities and wanting to know more how that would be depicted. As I read this book, I read it a lot through the lens of my career as a speech language pathologist. So many thoughts: the feelings of a parent (let alone a single parent) of a child with different needs especially related to communication, how others observe others and their differences, behavior interventions. Though some of the methods I don’t necessarily agree with, I think it was heartwarming to see how involved Denise was with her son. It was nice to have a shoutout to the things involved in communication and speech therapy in a story. Also, who could pass up a story about a firefighter.
