this was a big leap from the last book so i can’t blame katee for giving it a shot and doing something unique. the premise is cool! we follow the same three from the series, now-king theo and his consorts, meg and galen. i like throuples and think it’s an interesting conflict when there’s a 1-2 power imbalance like this, kind of like american queen by sierra simone. but… SO much of this book was spent complaining about their shitty situation and just dealing with it! none of them were happy for most of this book, and then the climax was super rushed and uninteresting. i still really liked these characters, and the idea was there, but the execution didn’t do it for me. 😵‍💫
