While Part of Your World was every bit the swoonworthy modern fairy tale, it was also an emotional rollercoaster that had me ugly crying in the middle of cooking dinner. Though the plot wasn't anything new, I thoroughly enjoyed it because of the characters. They're so well-written and realistic that I felt like I was reading about people I know in real life (and at times, even me). What especially hit close to home (perhaps a little too close) was Alexis' relationships with her family and her ex, which showed what abuse looks like when it's not as visible as bruises or cuts.
However, even with these heavy themes, the story was still as hopeful and romantic as ever. It was so touching to witness Alexis break free from a world of constant gaslighting, cruel entitlement, and shackling expectations and fall headfirst into another world, Daniel's world, where she finally experienced what it feels like to be loved wholly and unconditionally. It was also so inspiring to see Daniel break free from his own shell and, through Alexis, gain the confidence to pursue his dreams, especially those that were far bigger than his small town.
Overall, I loved everything about this book. It's my first foray into Abby Jimenez's work, and safe to say, it's definitely not gonna be my last.
