The Racism of People Who Love You: Essays on Mixed Race Belonging by Samira Mehta

challenging emotional informative inspiring reflective sad fast-paced

5.0

With this book, Mehta opens a space on discussion of race that I personally have badly needed, especially in recent months. She has a perceptive and nuanced take on what it means to be mixed, particularly when you are half-white and raised to be comfortable in those settings, a situation I'm intimately familiar with. Mehta uses theory with grace and deftness, introducing her central concepts with care toward making them accessible outside the academy. I bought this book on a whim, devoured it within 24 hours and already convinced my sister to buy it. Idk what higher praise a man can really give.
