This one is............ there's a list of content warnings at the start of the book and yeesh the book absolutely needs them
The concept is: what is actually scary to a young trans woman in the UK right now? How can we turn that into a horror novel? And the answer is that there will be a haunted house and the haunted house will be fascist
Three best friends (Alice, Ila, and Hannah) go into a haunted house. Three years later, Hannah is dead, Alice and Ila both have accused the other of raping her, and Ila is a famous TERF
This is very scary although after a certain point I think Rumfitt does push it a bit too far........ like when Hannah's dead body gets turned into a giant swastika I was just like, come on
I don't know that it has really anything to say about fascism? Aside from maybe: fascism will always exist, fascism is eternal, but the love you show to each other in the meantime is worth it anyway
Which actually is all that you really need to say! I enjoyed this one a lot
