dark reflective sad

An excellent book I hated reading. First, whoever let that introduction into the book is a fool. It spoils half the book! Second, I loved the writing style, even in translation it conveys it's characters and meanings perfectly. Third, I hated the main character, which I realize was part of the point. His calousness to everyone who loved him and stubborness brought nothing but missery and ruin. Still,
I like the message at the end where, even after loosing everything and being old, you can still change, improve, and struggle for a better future.
Much of the book revolves around grim realities of farm life and struggling to make ends meet. A harsh land ruled over by a harsher man. Overall I'm glad I read this book, but would never want to read it again.
