Well Played

I'm really glad I picked this book up as part of a reading challenge so I was pushed to finish it. Otherwise, I might have missed out on it. This wasn't one that grabbed me from the beginning. If anything, I was a little turned off by the fact that the heroine had hooked up with the hero's cousin prior to the start of the book and that she's the one that starts the whole email/catfish thing (although she has no idea she's communicating with the wrong guy).
But once I got over the beginning, I started to really like Stacey. She has a gripping backstory, and you really feel for her being "stuck" and how it's affecting her. She feels wonderfully real and normal. I liked that about her.
The other thing I really liked? The kind of role-reversal of this book. Really, Stacey is kind of the unattainable, alpha female to the shy, self-conscious hero. It was a really nice change. I loved how she was the one doing the grand gestures because she realized Daniel truly felt like he wasn't good enough for her.
Just ended up really liking where this story went.
I didn't read the first book in the series, so I'd say this works fine as a standalone.
