This took me several days to process, but finally enough time has passed for me to be able to coherently review this book. I never expected to fall so deeply in love with this trilogy and these characters when I began the first book on a friend's recommendation, but now they mean everything to me.
Daughter of No Worlds (#1) and Children of Fallen Gods (#2) are undeniable 5 stars and are now some of my all-time favorite books. This finale, however, definitely felt like the weakest of the three. At over 700 pages, there were some pacing issues and things started to feel a bit repetitive at times. But the biggest flaw of Mother of Death & Dawn is the severe lack of interactions between the three main characters. They essentially have a souls-deep connection, are constantly seeing visions/feeling emotions of the others, and there is so much left to unpack between all of them. And yet, we barely get 2 pages of their face to face interactions. I feel that we needed much more of the three of them together, and it was so detrimental to this story in fact, that I think this is a 4 star read purely due to that.
"I despise what he is doing in the name of his vengeance. I despise what he is doing to the world, to all of us. But I understand him. At times, that seems like the cruelest part of this of all. We all feel the same things, and we will still die trying to kill each other for it."
This was still a very satisfying conclusion to The War of Lost Hearts trilogy, but it is definitely my least favorite of the three books. I will forever scream the praises of Tisaanah from the rooftops until everyone loves her as much as I do. But please check the trigger warnings for this series if you plan on starting it, as it deals with some very dark and heavy topics!
